Privacy Policy
ReCollect helps you keep the passages that matter to you and brings them back over time. This policy explains what we store, why, who helps us run the service, and the control you have over it. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't use your library to train AI models.
What we store
- Account details — your email address, display name, and how you sign in (email and password, Apple, or Google). Passwords are stored only as salted hashes.
- Your library — the quotes, books, tags and reflections you add, including text you capture with the camera.
- Preferences — interface and AI language, time zone, notification settings, the Discovery Dial, and whether reflection questions may build on your earlier reflections (with the date you made that choice).
- How you use quotes — signals such as viewing, liking, sharing or skipping a quote, used only to choose what resurfaces for you.
- Device details — a push-notification token if you turn notifications on, and basic diagnostics (errors, performance) to keep the app working. If the app crashes, a crash report is sent: what went wrong, your device model and system version, the app version, and your account's internal ID — never your email, name or the text of your quotes and reflections.
- Subscription status — whether you have Premium. Payments are handled by Apple or Google; we never see your card details.
How we use it
- To run the app: sync your library, pick your daily quote, and show it in the app, widgets and notifications.
- To generate AI readings, reflection questions and theme tags for your quotes. The quote text is sent to our AI provider for that request only.
- Only if you allow it: to let the next reflection question on a quote build on what you wrote about it before. Your most recent reflections on that quote (up to three, shortened) are then sent to our AI provider along with the quote, for that request only. This is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time.
- To find and fix crashes.
- To send account emails you ask for (verification, password reset). No marketing email without your consent.
- To keep the service secure and fix problems.
Who processes it
We rely on a small number of providers, each bound to use your data only to provide their service to us:
- Microsoft Azure — hosting, database, file storage, text recognition, push delivery, diagnostics, and the Azure OpenAI service that generates AI readings.
- Resend — delivery of account emails.
- Apple and Google — sign-in (if you choose it), push notifications, and in-app purchases.
- Google Firebase Crashlytics — collecting crash reports from the app.
- RevenueCat — managing your subscription status across stores.
- Open Library, Google Books and ISBNdb — looking up book details. Only the ISBN or search text is sent, never your account.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, everything is removed immediately — see below. Diagnostic logs are kept for up to 31 days.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account at any time in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your library, reflections, preferences, sign-in details and push registrations.
- Turn off notifications in Settings or your device settings.
- Stop reflection questions building on your reflections at any time: Settings → Reflection questions. New questions are then written from the quote alone.
- Access, correct or export your data, or ask any question about this policy, by writing to privacy@recollectapp.co.uk. Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California) you have further rights under local law, and you can complain to your data-protection authority.
Children
ReCollect is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app.
